GLOSSING:
[rt]: In the sign BLAME-[rt] the "rt" means "aim this sign toward your right. Another way to say this would be to use the notation "PRO.3" which stands for "third person pronoun." Think of a first person pronoun as "I or me." A second person pronoun as "you." And a third person pronoun as "he or she." When I point to myself I'm using a "PRO.1." When I point to you I am using a "PRO.2." When I point off to the side referring to someone other than you and me, I'm using a third person referent or "Pro.3."
CURRICULUM: In the practice sentences you should try to match the question to your partner, for example, if you are conversing with a teenage, unmarried girl, it makes no sense to ask her if her "wife" is stubborn. Instead you should modify the question to ask if her boyfriend is stubborn, or if her mother is stubborn. On the other hand, suppose your partner is clueless or being smart-alecky and asks you a question without modifying it. You could simply reply, "I NOT-YET MARRY. SOMEDAY MAYBE MY HUSBAND STUBBORN."
STRANGE:
ODD-[strange, O-D-D] The term STRANGE can be used to mean "odd" but if you are
talking about "even and odd numbers" I recommend just spelling O-D-D.
GUESS: A student asks "Can you use the sign MISS-(out) as in, "He missed the
ball," to mean "guess" as in, "ME how-OLD, GUESS?"?
Answer: Yes. Sign ME and then use a "wh" facial expression while
signing OLD and do the sign MISS/GUESS sign. Or you could even sign MISS/GUESS
MY OLD without the facial expression and it would mean "Guess my age."
ASLTA: The acronym "ASLTA" stands for American Sign Language Teachers
Association. It is an organization that strives to support and encourage
professionalism in ASL instruction. They have a national-level
organizing body as well as affiliated state-level chapters. ASLTA
provides a testing and certification process for ASL instructors.
